An unmanned aerial vehicle (abbreviated as UAV) is an aircraft, piloted remotely, or flying independently, without the assistance of a pilot. It is an example of unmanned equipment.

Propeller, jet and rotorcraft are structured for various purposes - from reconnaissance to exterminatory and striking (bomber) variants.

As a rule, they are equipped with powerful electronics, reconnaissance equipment, powerful shielding from interference, have rather compact dimensions for less visibility, but can have large dimensions comparable with full-sized aircraft. UAVs used for reconnaissance and aerial photography can be camouflaged as birds, in which case they are called "drone". Advantages of the UAV in the absence of the pilot and its life support systems, control and output of information allow to realize smaller dimensions for reconnaissance, greater maneuverability for fighters, a greater payload for bombers and impact UAVs. A number of forecasts state that UAVs will become in the future one of the main factors of successful conduct of military operations.

Unmanned aerial vehicles over the decades are in the arsenal of the armies of the world. The flow of these technologies into the civilian sector began in 2010. In colloquial speech, non-military UAVs are often called drones, in the image of related for them combat and reconnaissance systems. But in civil aviation, the abbreviation of UAV is considered a more correct term.
After demobilization, the UAV started a new career. Over the past five years, world sales of non-military drones have quadrupled. According to the US authorities, only in this country the number of small hobby-drones can reach 3.5 million units by 2021, and 442 thousand in commercial ones.
In 2016, the consulting company Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) said that by the end of the decade, this industry is capable of 6,000 percents' growth: the commercial solutions market can jump from $ 2 billion today to $ 127 billion in 2020.
According to PwC, the use of drones will continue to expand in a wide variety of areas, especially in agriculture, construction, transportation, security and entertainment.
With regard to the volume of UAV purchases, the first place in the next decade is also still for the United States - 34.9% (13.66 billion dollars). The Asian region will account for 36.6% (14.33 billion dollars), for European countries - 14.6% (5.77 billion dollars), for the rest of the world - 13.9% (5.45 billion dollars).
American analysts say that sales of UAVs in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America can reach $ 0.5 billion. It is possible that the world market will increase interest in the products of Israeli companies Israel Aircraft Industries and Elbit, which, to a large extent Depend on exports and through its expansion will be able to control the niche of the world market with a volume of 3.68%.

European countries will have about 15% (5.77 billion dollars) of UAV purchases, while European companies will produce less than 4% of unmanned equipment during the period under review. European countries will try to solve this visible imbalance by expanding cooperation in the field of unmanned equipment.

The analysis of UAV programs of the leading countries of the world shows a universal and qualitative possibility of using these aircraft in various spheres of human activity. Equipped with a video camera, unmanned aerial vehicles can be used not only for military purposes, but also for a wide variety of purposes - emergency services, oil and gas production, police, agriculture, energy and communications, forestry and fishing, as well as to simplify the work of the media.
Thus, proceeding from the above information about the world's leading manufacturers of the UAV, it is possible to consider the development and creation of unmanned military vehicles and dual-purpose aircraft in the Republic of Kazakhstan, in which fully involve the domestic enterprises of the defense-industrial complex in this process.
