The Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan, Beibut Atamkulov, met with Dmitry Rogozin, General Director of «Roscosmos» State Space Corporation, as part of his working trip to the «Baikonur» Cosmodrome.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of the project to create a new environmentally friendly «Baiterek» space rocket complex, attract investment to the «Baikonur» complex and further develop the city of Baikonur.
The meeting was attended by the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the «Baikonur» Complex Serik Kozhaniyazov, the Head of the Baikonur Administration Konstantin Busygin, Acting President Nikolay Sevastyanov, the First Deputy General Director of the «Roskosmos» State Corporation, and other employees of the space departments of the parties.
Within the framework of the working trip Minister Beibut Atamkulov also held talks with the heads of the European Space Agency and NASA.
On the implementation of the «Baiterek» project
The main joint space project at the «Baikonur» cosmodrome is the project to create a new environmentally friendly SRC (space rocket complex) Baiterek.
Based on the decisions taken during the 5th meeting of the IGC on the «Baikonur» complex, the Kazakh side has now accepted all 243 facilities at sites 42, 43 and 45 of the «Baikonur» cosmodrome.
Work is continuing on the preparation for signing the Protocol on Amendments to the Intergovernmental Agreement on the establishment of the «Baiterek» SRC, the signing of which will resolve the issue of transferring the «Baiterek» project to budget funding.
At present, the Parties have completed domestic procedures for the preparation of this Protocol for signature.
On attracting investments to the «Baikonur» complex
One of the main tasks envisaged by the Concept of further cooperation at the «Baikonur» complex (dated December 26, 2016) is attraction of investments to the «Baikonur» complex.
The Kazakh side started implementing infrastructure projects in the city of Baikonur, on the modernization of water supply systems, gasification, and housing construction.
In order to attract investments to the «Baikonur» complex, the possibilities of cooperation at the Baikonur complex in the tripartite format Kazakhstan-Russia-UAE have been explored.
