“This machine will receive a fundamentally new on-board equipment, through which it will be able to conduct electronic suppression of any targets: land, air, sea, disable enemy satellites that provide navigation and radio communication on the ground”, – he added.
According to the source, for today a draft design is ready, experimental design work should begin soon. The interlocutor of the agency added that the aircraft will replace the Il-22PP “Porubshchik” in the Air and Space Forces.
“The new aircraft is named “Porubshchik-2″, but most likely, this equipment will come under a different name to the Air and Space Forces”. There will definitely be a new glider – the possibility of creating such an aircraft on the basis of the Tu-214 or IL-76 is under consideration”, – He concluded.
“Porubshchiks” are considered to be one of the most effective EW aircraft in the world. They can independently detect the electronic radiation of enemy air defense complexes, suppress them with powerful interference or distort the signals of their radar. It is specified that the Il-22PP does not interfere with the operation of electronic systems of its troops.
