Romania will be the first among the European states which will adopt to the army the American missile complexes M142 HIMRAS. The Lockheed Martin company has begun the production of missile installations for Romanian army, the “Warspot” reports with reference to the armyrecognition.com portal.
Romanian military agency asked from USA 54 installations of HIMRAS with missiles complex, as well as auxiliary equipment and service maintenance.
In total, the Ministry of Defense of Romania is waiting for the delivery of 162 GMLRS type missiles with two types of combat units, 54 ATACMS missiles, 24 fire control complexes, 30 armored SUVs HMMWV, as well as loading vehicles, missile trailers, technical assistance vehicles and other auxiliary equipment. Completely the order “pulled” on $ 1.25 billion.
Currently, Lockheed Martin has started the first part of the order for $ 218 million. Details of the order are not given, only the deadline is known, which is limited to December 2020.
M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) is a highly mobile rocket and artillery system for operational and tactical purposes. The system is developed on the basis of a wheel chassis FMTV weighing 5 tons. The basic ammunition for the M142 are MLRS missiles (M26, GMLRS, AT-2 and others) with a range of up to 70 km. In addition, the system can be equipped with a launcher for one ATACMS rocket (Army TACtical Missile System), and can also be used as a launcher for AIM-120 AMRAAM “air-to-air” missiles.
