Tajikistan received a new batch of Russian weapons

On the 19th of December, 2017 in Dushanbe the next batch of Russian military and military-technical equipment for protection of the border with Afghanistan was transferred to the Armed Forces of Tajikistan. This will expand the capabilities of Tajikistan’s Armed Forces to repel the terrorist threat, create a reliable barrier on the Tajik-Afghan border.

Tanks T-72B1, BTR-80 (armored personnel carrier-80) and BTR-70 (armored personnel carrier-70), BMP-2 (Infantry fighting vehicle-1), helicopters Mi-24 and Mi-8, howitzers D-30, anti-aircraft guns, topographic equipment, spare parts for armored vehicles, communication equipments, rear assets and large number of small arms were transferred.

Major-General Alexander Kshimovsky, the head of the main department for international military cooperation of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, noted that in 2017, Russian military products worth $ 122 million were transferred to Tajikistan. At the same time, all assistance is delivered by the Russian Ministry of Defense on a free basis as part of military-technical assistance.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation expressed concern about the situation in Afghanistan, where the number of Islamic state formations is growing dynamically. And the Russian ambassador in Tajikistan, Igor Lyakin-Frolov, told to RIA News that there is no direct threat of an invasion of militants from Afghanistan to Tajikistan, but in the long term it exists.
