State enterprise “Житомирский бронетанковый завод” (is part of the State enterprise “Ukroboronprom”) completed deep modernization and plant tests of infantry fighting vehicle BMP – 1 UMD.
BMP – 1 UMD successfully completed all running, fire and other operational tests, affirming own high characteristics, which well expanded fight possibilities of infantry fighting vehicles – declared in “Ukroboronprom”.
Deeply modernized BMP-1 is equipped with «modern combat module“, digital fire control system, german engine Deutz. A 30-mm automatic cannon, a 30-mm automatic grenade launcher, a 7.62-mm machine gun and an anti-tank complex “Barrier” were installed at the BMP. It is alleged that, thanks to this, BMP-1 can destroy tanks at a distance of up to 5 km. For accuracy of the fire are responsible the Track-M sighting system and the СВУ-500-3Ц stabilizer.
Protection is complemented by works on masking BMP-1UDM in the infrared range – vehicle, according to the concern, became less visible through the thermal imager.
Weight of BMP – 1 is 14 tons – for 1 ton more than on conventional BMP-1.
Engine has capacity 330 horsepower (on conventional BMP-1 the capacity is 300 horsepower), capacity can be enhanced up to 390 horsepower.
Reference: BMP – 1 was developed in USSR in 1960, and adopted into the service in 1966. Serially produced until 1979.
