Five largest purchases of the Lithuanian army after the annexation of the Crimea

According to Delfi.lv on November 1, 2017, the Lithuanian army and the Norwegian company Kongsberg signed an agreement on the purchase of Norwegian mobile medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems NASAMS. BNS represents the five largest purchases of the Lithuanian army after the occupation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, which are presented in order from the largest to the smaller.

 

Infantry fighting vehicles Boxer

The contract for the purchase of 88 infantry fighting vehicles was signed in August last year, its value was 386 million euros. The first few cars must be delivered to Lithuania at the end of this year, all BMPs will be delivered by 2021, which will provide two army battalions in Rukla and Alytus. The tower for these infantry fighting vehicles is produced by an Israeli company, and the machine itself is by a German consortium.

 

Missile systems «NASAMS»

Mobile medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems NASAMS. These installations are purchased from the Norwegian company Kongsberg, the transaction amount reaches 110 million euros. Norwegian missiles can hit targets at a distance of several tens of kilometers and shoot down targets at an altitude of 15 km, but they will not be able to shoot down enemy missiles. These systems Lithuania plans to receive until 2021. They will be deployed in Radviliškis, but they are mobile.

 

Trucks

The contract with the German company Daimler AG Lithuania signed at the end of 2015. According to the agreement, up to 2022, 340 of «Unimog U 5000» trucks should be delivered to Lithuania in the amount of nearly 63 million Euros. New cars are purchased for the purpose of updating the fleet of trucks.

 

Аrtillery howitzers

In September 2015, the Lithuanian army, which had only non-self-propelled howitzers, signed an agreement on the purchase of self-propelled guns. From Germany will acquire 21 PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer, 26 armored vehicles of M 577 V 2 command and six evacuation tanks BPZ 2. The contract value reaches 16 million Euros, but funds for the modernization of howitzers and the implementation of other projects will still be required. The Ministry of Defense reported that an additional 40 million Euros may be required additionally. Four howitzers have been delivered to Lithuania so far, all equipment will be delivered to the country by 2019.

 

GROM Air Defense Systems

The contract for the acquisition of portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS) of GROM with the Polish company Mesko was signed in September 2014. The number of purchased MANPADS is not disclosed, and the amount of the contract is about 34 million Euros. MANPADS GROM are designed to combat low-flying visually observable air targets of various types (including aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles). GROM is capable of destroying targets at a tactical distance from 400 meters to 5.5 kilometers, and also at altitudes of 10 meters to 3.5 kilometers. These systems will be delivered before 2021.
