Military parade in honor of the 100th anniversary of Armed forces of Azerbaijan

Four thousands of military servicemen of the state agencies, providing security and military power of Azerbaijan, marched through the central square of the capital.

Baku, 26th of June – Sputnik. In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan in Baku, at “Azadlyg” square on Tuesday, 26th of June was organized large scale military parade, on which all agencies, which are responsible for security and defense of the state were represented.

The parade was hosted by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev. Among the guests of honor are First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, state and government officials, Milli Majlis deputies, ambassadors of foreign countries accredited in Azerbaijan, military attaches, employees of international organizations, heads of delegations who arrived in the republic in connection with the jubilee events, war veterans and representatives of the capital’s public.

The Minister of Defense, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov, gave a report to the President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.

The head of state, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev greeted the personnel taking part in the military parade.

In the performance of a separate exemplary orchestra of the Ministry of Defense, the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded.

According to the information of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic, about 4,000 servicemen of the ministries of defense, internal affairs, emergency situations, the State Security Service, the State Border Service and the Special Service of State Protection, as well as the ceremonial staff of the Armed Forces of Turkey, are in the solemn procession.

The parade presents over 240 military equipment, more than 70 flight vehicles, including recently adopted various types of new and modern weapons and equipment – armored vehicles, missile and artillery systems, air defense systems, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles.

To this solemn day, up to one hundred representatives of the armies and governments of Turkey, Pakistan, Belarus, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine were invited to Azerbaijan.

A hundred years ago an army of independent Azerbaijan was established. Its formation began with the decree of the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), which was published on June 26, 1918.

The decision to rename the Muslim Corps as a separate Azerbaijani corps became the legal basis for the creation of the Armed Forces of Independent Azerbaijan.

By the decree of the great Heydar Aliyev of May 22, 1998, June 26 was declared the Armed Forces Day and a non-working day.

The first parade of the Armed Forces was held in Baku on October 9, 1992. In Baku on June 26, 2011, there was a military parade timed to the Armed Forces Day and the 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence, and in 2013 a parade was held timed to the 95th anniversary of the creation of the Armed Forces. The parade was addressed by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev.

The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, consisting of the Land Forces, the Air Force and the Navy, are called upon to defend the independence, territorial integrity and freedom of the people of Azerbaijan. They are considered the strongest and prepared by the armed forces in the South Caucasus.
