The Danish Navy will purchase American anti-aircraft missiles SM-2

The US Department of State issued the permission on conclusion of agreement with Denmark about supply of 46 of rockets interceptors for naval forces of the state worth 152 mln US Dollars. About this on Wednesday, on the 1st of August, reported RIA News with reference to data of agency on cooperation in the defense and security sphere, subordinated to Pentagon.

In the message as in the other such situations noted that supplies of anti missiles “will not change military balance in the region” and will not affect the combat readiness of the USA”.

Executor of works on production of missiles and necessary systems and equipments for them is the American company Raythenon and British BAE System.

The speech is going about the modification of SM-2 Block IIIA missiles/ which in particularly are used in system of anti missile defense of the USA of sea based “Aegis combat system” (installed on destroyers of class “Arly Burk” and cruisers of class “Ticonderoga”).

Family of SM-2 anti-aircraft missiles is different from previous SM-1 model of combined guidance system: on the march area – command-inertial, and on the terminal – semi-active. The radar “illumination” is activated only for a few seconds for accurate guidance when the missile approaches the target. Thanks to this the noise immunity of the complex is increased.

Range of application of SM-2 – up to 167 km, height of defeat – from 150 meters to 15km.

For launch of SM-2 missiles Mk.41, Mk.13 and Mk.26 launchers are used.

In addition to the USA missiles SM-2 were adopted for service in the navy forces of Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Netherlands, Spain and Taiwan.
