The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands announced the signing of a contract for the delivery of the mini-UAV PD-100 Black Hornet, intended for reconnaissance units of the Army and Marine Corps. This was reported on Friday, May 11, 2018 by Center for Analysis of world arms trade.

The system will be supplied by the Norwegian company Prox Dynamics (in 2016 the company was acquired by the American FLIR Systems and now bears the name FLIR Unmanned Aerial Systems).

As stated, the systems are ordered from off-shelf models existing on the market, which ensures that the UAV is tested in combat conditions at a known cost. “Black Hornet” has already been used by the British military in Afghanistan, adopted in Germany and Norway.

In the near future, Prox Dynamics specialists will train instructors from among the Dutch military personnel who will then train the personnel themselves. Reconnaissance systems with UAVs PD-100 are designed to equip tactical units of the “separation” level and military personnel individually.

The unmanned aircraft weighing about 18 grams are equipped with an electric motor that drives a two-blade rotor with a diameter of 120 mm and a steering screw. The flight duration of the UAV is 25 minutes; its range is 1.6 km from the control station. The UAV is equipped with a developed small-sized thermal imager.

The cost of a set of “Black Hornet” is estimated at 50 thousand US dollars.
