The UAE intends to acquire in the US managed missiles AIM-9X-2 “Sidewinder” – DSCA

Center for analysis of world arms trade, 12th of March. The US Department of State approved the potential supply of the UAE of the AIM-9X-2 short-range guided missile block 2 “Sidewinder” of the “air-to-air” class within the framework of the program “Foreign military sales”.

The total sale price could reach $ 270.4 million.
The US Defense Co-operation Security Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the possibility of selling on March 7.

The UAE government requested the USA to acquire 300 guided missiles AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder Block 2, 40 training missiles AIM-9X-2 CATM (Captive Air Training Missiles), 30 tactical missile guidance units AIM-9X- 2 Block.2, 15 guidance blocks for AIM-9X-2 CATM and missile containers.

The request also includes the supply of spare parts and assemblies, ancillary equipment, technical and logistical support from the contractor and the US government, as well as other related support equipment and services.

As stated, the implementation of this program is in line with US foreign policy and will increase the security of a friendly state in the Middle East.
The notice notes that this sale will expand the capabilities of the UAE to counter existing and future threats. Weapon systems will be used as a deterrent to parry regional threats and strengthen self-defense.

The main contractor of the project was Raytheon Missile Systems.

Notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of US law and does not mean that contracts for the sale of the equipment in the requested amount will necessarily be concluded.
