The South Korean main battle tank K2 “Black Panther” received a new version. At the DX Korea Defense Exhibition, held in Seoul, Hyundai Rotem Company presented a “deserted” version of the K2 Black Panther MBT, “Military parity” reports with reference to the armyrecognition.com portal.
South Korean MBT K2 Black Panther has been in service with the South Korean army since 2014 and is considered one of the most modern main tanks in the world. The presented “deserted” version of K2 is similar to the base model, but is equipped with a conditioning system located on the right side of the tank tower. According to the developers, the tank has already been tested in desert conditions, where it showed good results. There is an increased interest from the countries of the Middle East.
The K2 Black Panther MBT is armed with a 120 mm L/55 smooth-barrel cannon with automatic loading, a twin M60 machine gun of 7.62 mm caliber, and a 12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun. The tank has a combined armor on each side of the hull, and dynamic around the tower. There is an active protection system (APS – Active Protection System) and a warning system for laser irradiation. The standard equipment includes: automatic detection and tracking of targets, panoramic sights, GPS, “own-alien” identification system, complex nuclear, biological and chemical protection system.
The weight of the tank is 55 tons, the crew is 3 people.
