Russian ground forces are developing a combat vehicle for portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS), was told on Thursday to «Interfax» in the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
For units armed with portable anti-aircraft missile systems such as “Igla-S” and “Verba”, the development of a command and control vehicle for the commander of the platoon and combat vehicle of the anti-aircraft gunners department is being completed”.
The combat vehicle is capable of reconnaissance of air targets and their firing by homing missiles from the place and in motion. In addition, the combat vehicle will not yield to foreign analogues for mobility, secrecy and degree of automation of work, and for a number of characteristics will surpass them.
MANPADS “Verba” and “Igla-S” are Russian portable anti-aircraft missile systems designed to engage low-flying air targets in oncoming and catch-up courses under conditions of false thermal interference. They highly likely hit low-emitting targets – cruise missiles and drones.
