The Netherlands is sending another party of main battle tanks “Leopard-2A6” to Finland

According to information posted on the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands, the delivery of the main battle tanks (MBT) “Leopard-2A6” for the Finnish Armed Forces is scheduled to be completed in 2019. According to the ministry, another batch of 20 tanks was prepared for their delivery by sea to Finland.

As reported by the Center for the Analysis of the World Trade in Arms, on January 20, 2014, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Jeanine Hennis-Plaschthert and the Minister of Defense of Finland, Carl Haglund, ratified the agreement on the supply of 100 (MBT) “Leopard-2A6” from the Armed Forces of the Netherlands to Finland.

The total purchase price is estimated at 199.9 million euros. The agreement also includes spare parts, tools, simulators, training of personnel and the supply of ammunition. The Netherlands supplies tanks in batches of 20 units each. The first batch of MBT arrived in Finland in May 2015.

The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands announced its intention to remove the “Leopard 2” from its arsenal in April 2011. In May of the same year, two tank battalions were disbanded, and tanks were placed for storage. The equipment was modernized in the period 2000-2006, it was constantly serviced, repaired and in good condition.

In 2017 it became known that Finland purchased from the Armed Forces of Belgium 10 tractors for the transportation of purchased tanks. By 2019, it is planned to purchase 10 more tractors.
